We surprised ourselves by getting up before the alarm went off this morning...and that worked to our advantage as we had a long drive ahead of us to Emporia, Kansas; via Independence, Missouri. Jim started the drive through busy St. Louis traffic on I-70 west. Then John took over for a peaceful...long....drive across Missouri to our 1st stop...the President Truman National Historic Site.  We enjoyed walking six blocks to the museum center in the heat, to collect stamps honoring President Truman, as well as the Santa Fe, California, and Oregon Trails!!  We enjoyed our visit with President Truman and family via a movie, and passing by his home.  Of course it was time to eat as we walked back to Megellan, and we found the "hippest" diner called "Up Dog" with many tempting varieties of America's tube steak!  We both got the Missouri Dog which was a dog, with mustard, bacon, cheddar cheese and pickle...sides included onion rings and cheese fries. (The really healthy all American diet, YUM!) We had seen diesel fuel prices for as low as $3.29 in Missouri, but we were still full.  When we finally got to Emporia and needed refueling the price was $3.59.  This was still better than home....and we're happy report that Magellan is  an averag10.78 miles to the gallon!
