The curse of the cursed wind in Kansas made for a long 423 mile journey to our overnight stop in Siebert, Colorado.  Siebert is no Bright, IN, but at least it's a place to rest our wind weary bones tonight.  The first leg of today's journey took us to the beautiful National Tall Grass Prairie Preserve. Did you know that only 4% of America's once vast grasslands that stretched from Texas to Canada are still in existence today?  Thanks to the NPS and the Nature Conservancy we got to enjoy the remaining prairie today....and then came the winds!  We had just learned that Kansa tribe name comes from their word for "southwinds" and boy did we get to experience them all day!  Next we blew into President Eisenhower's Library & Museum Center in his hometown of Abilene, KS. WE LIKE IKE!  Then at the suggestion of a local we enjoyed a wonderful homestyle meal at Mr. K's Farmhouse. Then it was back on the road (I-70 west) for the crosswind fun.  Again, we were changing lanes without trying...aand became even better acquainted with rumble strips!  We had one more bit of excitement...the Kansas winds tried to take Megellan's large awning off the side...and none of us were happy about it.  Thanks to Jim's expert Boy Scout knots and much duct tape we salvaged the awning and pray that we will never have to open it up for shade!  And now all "flappage" has been eliminated!  Our Colorado home for tonite is giving us a respite from AC as we have a windows open enjoying a Colorado breeze.  Tomorrow we will see Becca, Jim's daughter, and the Rocky Mountains.  We never ever caught sight of Toto or Dorothy...but feel sure that they have blown to OZ!
