Today was our day to explore the famous Sanibel Island, off the coast of Ft. Myers, with Darrell & Janet Eaton as our tour guides. We started with a quick tour of their new home, Lake Fairways, in North Ft. Myers. They have a beautiful community center with lots of activities, workout room, club activities, and beautiful heated swimming pool. Next we stopped by an American Bald Eagle's nest (eyrie) which recently became the home to two(2) eaglets. The private property owner, Don Pritchart, has set up a web cam, with the assistance of Florida wildlife officials, so that everyone could view all the happenings in the growth and development of the new Florida residents on FaceBook. It was great to see the mother Eagle, Harriet, live hovering over her young babes, named Hope & Honor.

Then Darrell drove us down the Royal Palm-lined McGregor Boulevard, with beautiful millionaire mansions, backed up to the Caloosahatchee River. The first residents of this boulevard were famous inventors, Thomas Edison and Henry Ford. Next we headed southwest over the Sanibel Causeway to the famous shores of Sanibel Island. We were surprised to find it quite busy for a Tuesday morning in February. It was a beautiful day as we headed out to the historic pier and Sanibel Lighthouse. Even though the beaches were busy, we were able to stroll along the fine, white sand selecting a few choice shells for John to take home to his grand kids. The Eatons said that there hadn't been enough storms around here to provide some of the best shelling.

We completed our trip to Sanibel Island with some great shopping at Periwinkle Point specialty shops, after a delicious late lunch at "Blue Giraffe Island Dining."
