Today was another sightseeing day in three separate locations...only one of which was a National Monument.

We started by going to Bingham Canyon which Jim had visited as a child.  It was the world's largest open pit mine then.  Now it is thirty times larger and the world's SECOND largest open pit mine, three-fourths of a mile deep.  Last year they produced 25% of the Nation's new copper (275,000 tons of refined copper annually), 400,000 ounces of GOLD, 4,000,000 ounces of SILVER & 25 million pounds of molybdeym each year!

Next we went to Timpanogos Cave National Monument.  All the cave tours for the day were sold out.  Thus we avoided the 1 1/4 mile hike UP 6,100 feet (in 102 degree heat), a 3/4 mile walk through a 43 degree cave, and the 1 1/4 mile trek back down---all of which required a minimum three hours of continuous walking.  Instead we watched a 30 minute film about the caving experience!  We gave the movie two thumbs up!!

Last we drove to the marina at the south end of the Great Salt Lake.  We observed the abondoned "Saltair Night Club" and people walking a half mile OUT on the sand to reach the water's edge for swimming.  The Great Salt Lake is supposedly losing at least one foot of water annually.

We're experiencing a storm here at Hill AFB, Utah right now...so we can't get the pictures to upload at this time.  We'll go ahead and post this much info, and try again after the storm.
